How To

Summary

In the ITM Console, i see under network a section Bandwidth Utilization Percent (AIX). I see either Not Collected or 0.000 %.

How do I enable this?

Environment

AIX

Additional Information

Bandwidth Utilization can only be provided for physical adapters, which are usually on the VIOS and monitored by the VIOS Premium agent. Some users do have physical adapters on the AIX LPARs, and the Bandwidth Utilization will be displayed correctly for those.

If you only have virtual adapters on the AIX LPA, then Bandwidth Utilization will always be 0.

Only if you have physical adapters, or you have EtherChannel which has physical adapters on the AIX LPAR, you can monitor it for this attribute "Bandwidth Utilization Percent".

Usually the Bandwidth Utilization of physical adapters are monitored with the VIOS agent.

The agent issues the "lsdev" command to get the list of Network Interfaces (e.g. ent* devices).

Then it calls the AIX command "entstat -d <interface name>" (e.g. entstat -d ent0) to get the device statistics. If the Media Speed Running is returned, then the bandwidth is calculated from this data.

If it is not returned, then the value is set to 0.

For Aggregate and loopback (lo0), the Bandwidth Utilization and Bytes sent are not applicable, so they are set to Not Collected.
